I've always liked the idea of having a home filled with things you genuinely love. Not necessarily expensive things, or the latest interiors trend, but pieces that feel right in your space and that you enjoy living with.
Of course, it's easy to get carried away. One minute you're looking for a new cushion cover, and the next you're wondering whether the entire living room needs redecorating.
I've definitely been there.
But lately, I've been thinking more about how small changes can make a home feel different without having to start all over again. Sometimes it's as simple as moving things around, bringing out something you've had tucked away or finally finding the right piece for a corner that's never quite felt finished.
So, for this edition of The Home Edit, I've brought together a few everyday pieces that have caught my eye.
The bedding you look forward to getting into
There's something lovely about freshly washed bedding, especially when you've had a long day and all you want to do is climb into bed with a good book.
I'm particularly drawn to simple striped bedding at the moment. It feels timeless without being boring, and it works beautifully with plain cushions and throws.
The Yard Hebden bedding is a lovely example. Its understated stripes add a little interest without overwhelming the room.
And the best part is that you don't have to change everything else to make it work.
Cushions that make a difference
I have a bit of a weakness for cushions. Although I've learnt that adding more isn't always the answer.
A couple of well-chosen cushions can completely change how a sofa or bed looks. I particularly like mixing textures rather than introducing lots of different patterns.
The textured cream cushions in our current edit are the sort of pieces that can move around the house as your mood changes.
Sometimes a cushion that no longer works in the living room looks perfect on the bedroom chair.
It's worth trying before buying something new.
A throw you'll actually use
I don't think a throw should be something that sits perfectly folded over the arm of a sofa and never gets touched.
The best ones are the ones everyone reaches for.
At the moment, I'm loving deeper shades of navy. They add a little contrast to lighter interiors and feel especially inviting as the evenings get cooler.
A soft throw is also one of those rare home purchases that's as practical as it is lovely to look at.
Ours tend to spend more time being used than neatly arranged, which is exactly how it should be.
A little candlelight
I love how much the atmosphere of a room can change in the evening simply by switching off the overhead lights.
A lamp in the corner, a candle burning while you're reading or a softer light beside the sofa can make an ordinary evening feel more relaxed.
I've included a few NEOM candles in The Home Edit because I love the idea of making those everyday moments feel a little more special.
You don't need to save your favourite candle for guests or a particular occasion.
A quiet Tuesday evening is a perfectly good reason to light it.
The pieces that earn their place
I also think there's something satisfying about everyday items that are both useful and beautifully made.
A set of wooden breadboards, for example, might not sound particularly exciting. But when it's something you use regularly, the quality and design start to matter.
The same goes for a vase you find yourself filling with greenery from the garden, or a favourite bowl that's been part of your kitchen for years.
These are the things that quietly become part of everyday life.
And often, they're the things we'd miss most if they weren't there.
Making your home feel like yours
One thing I've realised is that the homes I find most interesting aren't necessarily the most perfectly styled.
They're the ones that tell you a little about the people who live there.
There might be books stacked beside the sofa, a slightly worn armchair that nobody wants to replace or a collection of things picked up over the years.
I think those details are what make a home feel lived in. It's easy to look at beautiful interiors online and feel that something in your own home is missing. But photographs rarely show the everyday reality of living in a space.
And that's the part that matters most. So although I love discovering lovely homeware, I'm trying to be more thoughtful about what actually deserves a place in our home.
Whether it's new bedding, a throw that gets used every evening or something you've already owned for years, the pieces worth keeping are usually the ones that make everyday life a little nicer.
